Unfortunately good things seem to come to
an end all to soon, so with holidays over, the start of another school year has begun!
Eric is happy to be getting better at his
times tables, Byron is excited about learning cursive writing, Isabella is
learning more alphabet letters and blending sounds and is doing well in math’s,
and Alesha is enjoying her pre reading skill activities and Reading Eggs learn
to read program…and Shelley…well she just causes trouble! She loves getting
into the school cupboards and taking the other kids pencils and erasers if left
within her reach. She likes to be included in the learning activities also, and
enjoys number and alphabet songs.
In science this
month Eric has been learning about ‘a potter and his work’ as well as ‘matter’
(liquid, solid, gas) and about living and non-living things. He especially
enjoyed a science project on “Everything Is Matter” where he collect all kinds
of objects, labeled them and glued them in a display box.

Alesha loves her Reading Eggs! She also
enjoys colouring in, and other pre reading skill activities, like; which one is
bigger/smaller, what comes next, pattern recognition, more or less, which one
doesn’t belong, cutting and pasting, numbers, letters and tracing, to name just
a few. She likes to feel that she is doing something too!

In social studies Eric has been learning
about how Earth moves, about different kinds of land and different kinds of
water. An Illustration - While earth
is travelling around the sun, it is also turning on its axis. Earth turning on
its axis is called rotation… With your fingers, turn the apple. Does the apple
turn around the skewer? We can see the apple turn on its axis. The axis for the
apple is the skewer…and yes, he is in his PJ’s…the perks of schooling at home!

Mathletics
is a fun online learning resource, which helps students enjoy math and improve
their results. It is a fun way to supplement the kids math in a motivating and
engaging way and is used widely throughout schools here in Australia.
